Ever wondered about finding the perfect gift for someone? Enter, Wonderkind. This gifting service is dedicated to putting together quality Canadian products run by female entrepreneurs shaking up the industry!
The company's founders Tara and Shawna’s share their stories, their drive, and nuggets of wisdom with us!
Can you tell us a bit about yourself, and what inspired you to start your business?
Brought together through cobblestone, fundraising and motherhood, we immediately connected. It did not take long to realize we shared common values, life experiences, and ambition. Our zeal for bringing people together, supporting entrepreneurs, and thoughtful gifting inspired a business platform. Combining more than fifteen years of experience in media arts and production, we shared a vision to build a company that embodied our values and would create a movement to spread kindness. This company is Wonderkind.
Wonderkind offers gift catering that is thoughtfully tailored to the individual. Designed to ensure gifting matters within a movement that we can all feel good about and celebrate. Supporting a circular economy, female entrepreneurs, creators, and our charitable partners.
How did you know when you had the right idea?
When creating our business plan and starting to share the idea, the enthusiasm and feedback from people was that our service was needed in their lives. This made us realize we were onto something special! Also, it just felt right. We felt inspired and driven to share this opportunity and create a platform for others.
What advice would you offer entrepreneurs starting out today?
Entrepreneurship is not for the faint of heart. Be prepared to push through the learning curves and curveballs thrown your way! Plan, be prepared, be patient, and be ready to invest your time and funds. Also, there is a vulnerability to putting yourself out there, so you must be confident in your ideas, abilities, and values.
What does success mean to you?
Success to us is circular, meaning we are working together to create a community where everyone can thrive. As clients and vendors support Wonderkind, in return we provide a service that makes people feel special, so we can continue to support our vendors and charitable partners. This flows into their dreams, families, and communities. This is circular success.
In moments of adversity or self-doubt how do you stay on track and motivated?
Partnership, friendship, relying on each other. Believing in the Wonderkind brand we have created and its purpose.
How do you celebrate your wins (can be business-related or personal)?
Wonderkind donates 10% of annual products to our charitable partners, Second Harvest, YES (Youth Employment Services,) CANFund, and Dress for Success Toronto. This is a business and personal celebration for us. We believe the best celebrations are the ones that can be celebrated together and help others.
Where can we find you?
One thing to take away from this interview is that Wonderkind inspires success so that it can be shared and recycled all around – we could all use the support companies provide towards the betterment of our society, while also providing a service that is invaluable to showing people we really care! It’s #bosslady businesses like Wonderkind that truly represent the EATABLE vision!
